Part 1 - Growth under Duress

Deneen L. Garrett, Manager AT&T Universe

Stress is apart of our lives in one form or another. Romans 8:28 states, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”(NIV)

However, when the stress takes a toll on your health and spiritual well-being it is time to make a change. Ms. Deneen L. Garrett, a high performing manager, mother and community volunteer learned to make life adjustments to off-set health issues caused by stress. Deneen moved her family back to Detroit, from Las Vegas to lessen the stress and surround herself with a support system.

Listen to my interview as Deneen shares her story what she practices to gain inner peace and impart it to her team and family.

Deneen’s tips include:

·         Praying the word of God and reading scriptures daily

·         Changing her diet and getting back to daily exercise

·         Self-reflection and quiet time in her car before work

·         Prioritizing her workload – cutting down the daily “To-Do” List

·         Making time for community service and family

·         Raising an independent child – She teaches her son do things for himself

Ms. Garrett’s purpose is to help others and make their lives better. Every day she seeks to make a difference in someone’s life.

Servant or Self-Serving? by Angeline Lawrence

Servant or Self-Serving

by Angeline Lawrence

Today I want to pose a question to the women (and men) of faith that are in the trenches for Christ. Do you need a title and/or acknowledgement from others to fulfill the ministry God has placed in your life?  I must confess that for years I hesitated to work in my ministry because I believed I needed a formal title.  I was given a wakeup call by God one day that changed my life.  He let me know, through the Holy Spirit, that I did not need title. I only needed him.

Jesus, again, serves as the high standard of faith. He was consumed with completing the mission of God, but did it with humility.  Listen in as I discuss Philippians 2:7 regarding the way we should serve God. Are we his servants or are we just self-serving?

Love Your Enemies By Angeline Lawrence

Love Your Enemies

by: Angeline Lawrence, Host

Being on the receiving end of taunts and bullying can be detrimental to our physical, mental and spiritual well-being.  As Christians, many of us were not built to give great comebacks when insulted.  Christ taught his disciples to love everyone, especially their enemies because he held them to a higher standard of righteousness.

Matthew 5:44 states, “But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,” (NIV) Christ taught them that true faith in God was more than the observance of laws and ordinances.  Christ emphasized the importance of displaying the same characteristics of compassion, equity and virtue as the Creator.  The ability to pray for individuals who work against us embodies great strength and righteousness.  Our Creator bestows His love and blessings upon everyone, even individuals that do not obey His Word.  We must learn to love the people that hate us.

In honor of one of the greatest civil rights leaders in the history of America, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stated, “Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into friend.”

My Sister’s Keeper by Angeline Lawrence

My Sister's Keeper
Angeline Lawrence, Host

Many of us have fallen short in some area of our life as Christians. Christ was adamant that we not judge others. Matthew 7:1 states, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” (NIV)     Rather, we should restore our sisters in the faith who have made mistakes, than ostracize them. Believers in the New Testament church were taught to help those that were weaker in the faith than they were.

Of course we must discern the situation and use wisdom. While some individuals are remorseful and want to rebuild their faith, there are others that are the opposite. Today, I will talk about ways to help individuals that have failed in their walk of faith, but need help to overcome. (Galatians 6:1)

As members of the Kingdom of God who are strong, it is our duty to help restore them with love and gentleness.  Romans 15:1 states, “We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.” (NIV)
