Doretta Gadsden, RN, CPC

Author of Living Victoriously: Strategies to Empower Women with a Chronic Diagnosis

Many of us have the testimony of the woman with the issue of blood in the bible (Luke 8:43-44). She pressed her way through a horrific crowd to receive healing by touching the hem of Jesus’ garment.  On the other hand, others must identify with Paul, the Apostle. He dealt with a condition God would not remove. Instead, God’s grace and power strengthened Paul in spite of his condition (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Likewise, Doretta Gadsden is a woman of God who overcame incest, drug addiction and a diagnosis of AIDS (Auto Immune Deficiency Syndrome) to be a shining light to others. She shares her strategies to live a vibrant life with the AIDS virus.Ms. Gadsden discusses her journey of becoming a Registered Nurse, author, speaker and life coach.  Doretta’s strategies include the following:

·                 Prayer and meditation - Learn to sit still and hear from God

·                 Take Action - Once God directs you take the steps given

·                 Support group – Surround yourself with positive people who speak life over you

·                 Stretch yourself – Educate yourself on the best doctors and medicines available for your condition

Ms. Gadsden provides more tips in her book, Living Victoriously: Strategies to Empower Women with a Chronic Diagnosis. She states,“The main message is you are bigger than any diagnosis or circumstance that isin your life at this moment.”  The book is in the Amazon Store at http://bit.ly/LivingVictoriously.

Importance of Patience - Growth Under Duress

January 6, 2016
00:0000:00
Happy New Year Shine & Grind Listeners.
2015 was a year of challenges, but we have crossed another bridge into the new possibilities. The month of January we will discuss growth under duress. I will start off with a discussion on Patience. The following weeks, three dynamic women who beat the odds to thrive despite negative circumstance will be guests on the show. Join us as I interview Ms. Deneen Garrett, Ms. Kimberly Collins and Ms. Eddrina Clark as they share their strategies for growth under duress.
We all endure trails and hard times, but our patience will help us to not endure to thrive. We are warriors for Christ, not merely survivors. Luke 21:19 states, " In your patience possess ye your souls." (KJV). However, the New International Version states, "Stand firm and you will win life."  Our patience is the key to sustaining our faith walk in Christ and enduring to the end to win.
Listen in as I discuss the need to wait on God and hear his voice.  We must stand in our faith ready to hear his direction.  I also share my testimony of the physical rehabilitation my son, Justin endured in 2015 after major knee surgery.  We both needed patience for him to  successful complete his program. Today he is working out independently and preparing for the next season of sports. God is faithful if we wait on HIM.

Cook, Gwen Webber-McLeod, Kim Cheatham, MJ Hansford, Melanie Lassiter, Teresita Glasgow and Valeria Robinson-Baker—this compilation speaks to talented women leaders and entrepreneurs with the purpose of helping to turn their restlessness into a strategy and showing them how to maintain their spiritual and emotional center during setbacks.

I have the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Deana Murphy, the publisher, along with four of my fellow co-authors for the Resilience book.

MJ Hansford, Angela Brown, Teresita Glasgow and Denise Hanney are from various backgrounds but share common threads of struggle and success.

Resilience: Living Life by Design, details the journey of the women who beat the odds such as childhood abuse, teenage pregnancy, workplace bullying and job loss to go on to be a success.

Another definition for Resilience is, "struggling well."  According to Dr. Deana Murphy, entrepreneur, international author, advocate and speaker, "The struggle will always be there, but it is how we respond to it."  The authors share their strategies for working through their past struggles and how it shaped them for the work they are accomplishing today.

Dr. Murphy's goal is to help women, "rise higher, suffer less and enjoy more." Listen in as we discuss life, family and entrepreneurship from the perspective of Resilience.
