Dealing with Endometriosis

Michelle N. Johnson, Wellness Educator

Endometriosis Advocate

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. Each year millions of women and girls are impacted by this debilitating disease.  Over 176 million women are fighting a silent war that is upending their lives. It crosses ethnicity/race, age and socio-economic levels.  Endometriosis is hard to detect and often misdiagnosed.

Listen to our interview as she shares insights and strategies to effectively deal with Endometriosis. In the U.S. on average, it takes 10 years from symptom onset to receive an accurate diagnosis of endometriosis.

Some of the top symptoms include:

  1. Severe bleeding during your period (like hemorrhaging)
  2. Lower back and abdominal pain
  3. Vomiting, nausea, and headaches
  4. Prevents you from getting out of bed or doing daily activities

It hits women in the prime of their reproductive lives and impacts women and girls from age 12 to age 60. The symptoms mimic other conditions.

Michelle N. Johnson turned the pain she endured from this disease into a purpose to educate others.

As a Licensed Massage Therapist, and Wellness Educator for over 10 years, Michelle N. Johnson fights fiercely to educate, enlighten and empower individuals to become proactive participants in their health and wellness management.

She brings awareness every March to the plight of those with Endometriosis through her annual Fighting Fiercely © educational campaign and expo.  She is a member of the Endometriosis Association, and author of the Endometriosis resource guide: Fighting Fiercely: Unveiling the Unknown about Endometriosis in June of 2015. She states, “I give women a roadmap for what the next steps should be after diagnosis. I share in-depth research on treatment options and make recommendations for specialists.”

4-ways to Build a Relationship with Yourself

Relationships: 4-ways to Build a Relationship with Yourself

nmbyi9
Angela Howell, Author
Finding the Gift

Women who work in the home or the marketplace need time with themselves.  Self-care is important. We need more than a facial or manicure once a week. We must de-stress and rebuild our spirits in God’s presence on a daily basis. Angela Howell, author, and transformation coach states, “When I am content with myself, I am more content with others.”

She is the author of "Finding the Gift: Daily Meditations for Mindfulness," which was quickly featured in the Tennessean‘s top ten best-sellers list five weeks in a row. Angela considers her award-winning, twelve-year career in corporate sales and eating disorder recovery journey two of her greatest teachers. Passionate about wellness and success, she has been seen in Fast Company, Cosmopolitan and Yahoo News, and is a regular contributor to Huffington Post

Angela is devoted to inspiring people to find renewed passions for living, loving, working and playing. And of course, just being! She shares four (4) ways we can develop a meaningful relationship with ourselves during the interview. The key points include the following:

1.    Be present during quality time with yourself. Meditate, pray, journal or take time for self-reflection. It is good to unload your mind to alleviate stress.

2.    Listen to your inner voice. Hear the voice of God and your spirit for direction and cues to what your body needs.

3.    Take action. Follow the direction from God for your life. Incorporate a daily regimen of self-care and wellness.

4.    Practice the method of mindfulness. Be aware of your thoughts, actions, and language throughout the day without judging yourself.  Stay attuned the situations within and around you.

Importance of Patience - Growth Under Duress

January 6, 2016
00:0000:00
Happy New Year Shine & Grind Listeners.
2015 was a year of challenges, but we have crossed another bridge into the new possibilities. The month of January we will discuss growth under duress. I will start off with a discussion on Patience. The following weeks, three dynamic women who beat the odds to thrive despite negative circumstance will be guests on the show. Join us as I interview Ms. Deneen Garrett, Ms. Kimberly Collins and Ms. Eddrina Clark as they share their strategies for growth under duress.
We all endure trails and hard times, but our patience will help us to not endure to thrive. We are warriors for Christ, not merely survivors. Luke 21:19 states, " In your patience possess ye your souls." (KJV). However, the New International Version states, "Stand firm and you will win life."  Our patience is the key to sustaining our faith walk in Christ and enduring to the end to win.
Listen in as I discuss the need to wait on God and hear his voice.  We must stand in our faith ready to hear his direction.  I also share my testimony of the physical rehabilitation my son, Justin endured in 2015 after major knee surgery.  We both needed patience for him to  successful complete his program. Today he is working out independently and preparing for the next season of sports. God is faithful if we wait on HIM.

Servant or Self-Serving? by Angeline Lawrence

February 23, 2015
00:0000:00

Servant or Self-Serving

by Angeline Lawrence

Today I want to pose a question to the women (and men) of faith that are in the trenches for Christ. Do you need a title and/or acknowledgement from others to fulfill the ministry God has placed in your life?  I must confess that for years I hesitated to work in my ministry because I believed I needed a formal title.  I was given a wakeup call by God one day that changed my life.  He let me know, through the Holy Spirit, that I did not need title. I only needed him.

Jesus, again, serves as the high standard of faith. He was consumed with completing the mission of God, but did it with humility.  Listen in as I discuss Philippians 2:7 regarding the way we should serve God. Are we his servants or are we just self-serving?

Thanks again for listening. Start today by subscribing to the podcast here. Connect with us on Facebook and tell us your thoughts about today’s episode.

I have a special offer for Shine and Grind listeners for the pre-sell of my book, "The Working Women's Guide to Winning: Defeat Satan at His Own Game with Integrity,” which will be published soon. Bridging the Digital Divide in Detroit: Alicia Jones, CEO, Harmony Point CTC

by: Angeline Lawrence

The two faces of Detroit, MI displays a confusing image for those looking from the outside. On the one hand, Detroit is a hotbed for high tech and social entrepreneurs. The city is experiencing a major comeback with new leadership and major redevelopment projects. On the other hand, Detroit still lags behind in the number of African Americans in the technology industry. The neighborhoods lack the services and jobs needed to help African Americans in the city.

Alicia Jones, a certified Information Technology Education trainer is building a huge bridge to help thousands of Detroiters cross over into the IT industry. Ms. Jones is the CEO of Harmony Point (CTC) Computer Training Center located in Detroit, MI.  She has successfully trained African Americans in the Detroit area. Most were chronically unemployed, but as a result of the training were placed in jobs with major corporations such as General Motors.  Listen to the interview as we discuss the transformational training of Harmony Point CTC that has impacted lives.

To find out more about Harmony Point CTC call 313-962-0055. The office is located at Woodward Academy, 951 East Lafayette, Detroit, MI 48207. Connect on Facebook.

Watching over the Vision

Watching Over the Vision

By: Angeline Lawrence

The job of a visionary does not end with simply writing down the plan.  The hard part is getting a great team to help execute it.  We can learn how to watch over the vision from some of the great leaders mentioned in the Word of God.

One of the most renowned female leaders of Israel was Deborah, a powerful woman of God that was a judge over the people of Israel.   Deborah charged Barak to fulfill the order given by God to lead an army of men to attack the nation’s enemy. He responded in Judges 4:8, “Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.”  The most talented people on a team will still need the support of their leaders to get the job done.

In addition, God watches over every word he speaks to man as stated in Jeremiah 1:12. He positions his spirit-filled leaders to execute his vision and intercede on his behalf. Download the new episode now and listen as I discuss, “Watching over the Vision.”
